Detective Aaron Smith
Aaron has over 24 yrs. law enforcement experience working in various capacities throughout his career. He spent time as a road patrol officer, member of the Gang Suppression Unit and over 11 yrs. in the Detective Bureau. Aaron served for 16yrs. on the department’s SWAT team as a sniper and operator executing over 500 high-risk search warrants and call-outs. He has been a firearms instructor, driving instructor, PTO, and honor guard member as well as an adjunct instructor with a local Community College. He is a certified Extreme Execution Coach and Flight Assessment facilitator trained through Eric Thomas and Associates (ETA). He has spent the last several years training first responders and civil servants about the mental health impact of their careers and personal lives. Utilizing tools and techniques from his personal and professional life, Aaron brings a unique vulnerability about what it takes to overcomes these challenges and how to use them to get back to living a healed, healthy and fulfilled life with renewed purpose. His coaching experience is now offered to individuals, groups and teams to assist them in finding their strengths, behavior style and the possible limitations that can hold them back from achieving success.
Detective Tyler Sutherland
Detective Tyler Sutherland has been a police officer for over 16 years. He graduated from Adrian College with a B.A. in Social Science, and a minor in Psychology. Detective Sutherland is currently assigned to his department’s Detective Bureau. Detective Tyler Sutherland worked as a road patrol officer for five years then was assigned to the department’s Gang Suppression Unit for over 7 years, before being promoted to Detective.
As a member of the Gang Unit, Detective Sutherland was directly involved as the lead investigator in several gang and violent crime cases involving cell phone investigations, drug Investigations, writing and executing search warrants, surveillance techniques, undercover drug buys, and managing confidential informants. These investigations resulted in several hundred hours of mental and emotional debriefs with other members of his unit and agency members, related to their emotional and physical perspective before, during, and after the event.
Detective Sutherland is a Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, and a Patrol Training Officer and Mental Health First Aid Instructor for his police department. Detective Sutherland has also received Instructor certification for Active Shooter Response for Civilians, through the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training center at Texas State University.
